Rob Sheers began his operational experience in high-hazard industries in 1983 and has a senior leadership background encompassing over thirty-five years of safety advancement.

Rob is an accomplished leadership coach, providing safety leadership and personal development coaching to executives, middle managers, supervisors and management teams.  His emphasis is on helping leaders to identify and leverage their strengths to connect with the key practices and leadership style dimensions that produce a high-reliability safety culture.

Rob has been a change agent and program manager for many large client organizations in mining, petroleum, food/agriculture, energy, government, transport, emergency services and other industrial sectors.  Rob collaborates with his clients to diagnose their current situation and design interventions that take the next step in high-performance, reliability, fatality prevention and safety culture change.

Drawing on over 15 years’ experience in consulting roles, Rob has worked in 11 countries on 5 continents, developing his adaptability to a range of cultural situations.  He has worked extensively with many leading global consultancies such as Behavioral Science Technology (BST) since 1999 and more recently, DEKRA Insight.  Whether coaching senior leaders in the jungles of PNG or reviewing catastrophic risk decisions in zinc/lead smelters in the US and Europe or supporting fatality prevention with a large energy supplier in SE Asia, Rob brings the diversity of his experience to the next client with an open mind to discovering their specific needs.

In addition to his time as a consultant, Rob has over 20 years’ experience in industry and government organizations, 17 of which were spent in operational and corporate safety roles with the global chemicals and explosives manufacturer, Orica.  His passion for safety started when he experienced first-hand, a multi-fatality incident involving his colleagues while working at an explosives manufacturing facility in Canada.  Rob has worked at the senior level as Operations Director for WorkSafe Victoria, the State Government OHS Authority, which included the leadership of 400 staff and the delegations for the OH&S Act, the Dangerous Goods Act and the Public Safety Act.  His experience at WorkSafe included the first-round of the operational licensing decisions for over 40 major hazard facilities.

In these roles, Rob acquired a client perspective of a broad range of safety technologies to improve behavioral and performance reliability with an emphasis on serious injury, fatality and catastrophic incident prevention.

Rob has a bachelor’s degree in applied science and a graduate diploma in occupational hygiene.
